Located in Hanam City, the Tree Orphanage derives its name from adopted trees that are removed from their original sites because of development or construction. The trees in this place are cared for until they find new homes along streets or in the newly developed parks around the city. Currently, more than 40 tree varieties – including bushy, ginkgo, and zelkova trees – can be found here, and Hanam City is cultivating this Tree Orphanage as a place where one can appreciate the importance of the environment. With its great view of the nearby Han River and its easy accessibility from Seoul, the Tree Orphanage is drawing attention as a new attraction of the city.

2. Misari Regatta

Misari Regatta was originally built as a venue for rowing and canoeing competitions of the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Seoul Olympics. This place is beloved as a leisure place by residents as it features sports facilities such as soccer fields and “foot volleyball” courts. Also, the park is surrounded by groves of trees, so many Hanam residents visit the park for their weekend picnics. It is also famous for its cherry trees and the pink muhly grass that embroiders the park in spring and fall.

3. Union Tower

Union Tower is a special place that combines waste treatment facilities and a park. As the Misa district of Hanam City underwent development, the need for both waste treatment facilities and green spaces for residents grew. Hanam City addressed this need by building incineration and recycling facilities underground and developing ‘Union Park’ on the surface. This place offers various resident-friendly amenities such as lawn squares, a children’s water playground, and multipurpose exercise equipment as well as Union Tower, an observatory that stands 105 meters tall and offers beautiful views of Geomdan Mountain and Paldang Lake.

Starfield Mall Hanam, the leading landmark of Hanam City since 2016, is the second-largest shopping mall in Korea. As it features the shopping mall brand of Shinsegae Co., Ltd., one can find specialized stores such as Emart Traders, Electromart and Shinsegae Department Stores under the management of the Shinsegae Group. With a height of 657 meters, Geomdan Mountain is a representative landmark of Hanam City. The word ‘Geomdan’ means ‘sacred altar’ and refers to how the mountain area was used during the Hanseong Baekje Dynasty. Thus, one can find the traces of altars here and people still hold memorial rituals in the vicinity. At the top of the mountain, there is a wide-open space where one can observe the beautiful landscape of Dumulmeori and Paldang lake.
